Paul Overfield started tap dancing as a child with Leon Valdez in
Hayward. His interest in all things percussion led to drum lessons, with
performances in his high school band. Professional performances as a
drummer continued through his 30's, with the group System of Soul.
Paul's interest in jazz has been lifelong, with favorite musicians that
include Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jonah Jones, Gerry Mulligan and
Fats Waller.
Paul rediscovered tap dancing with Debbie Sternbach over 10 years
ago and has been jamming ever since. With his finely tuned sense of
percussive rhythm, he performs solos in some of B.A.R.T.'s signature
pieces. Paul has performed at the St. Francis Hotel, the Lake Merritt
Hotel, numerous fundraisers, National Tap Dance Day events and
private parties. For the last 30 years, Paul has worked as a stevedore
vessel planner in the operations group of American President Lines,
practicing tap on the docks whenever he gets a chance.
